Your words are your address

YOUR WORDS ARE YOUR ADDRESS

Some people are identified by their position. Some others are identified by their clothes. There are also those who are identified by their wealth. Some may be identified by their beauty, while others may be identified by their character and values. Thus, people’s identities vary from person to person.

“A person need not be known by looking at his face; it is enough to listen to the words he speaks,” says a Western scholar.

A house address identifies the place where a person lives and gives us an idea about his economic status. But the words a person speaks reveal his inner self to us. Here, it is his speech that becomes his address.

Every word we speak reveals our thoughts, character, culture and humanity. That is why I firmly say, “Your words are your address.”

What I have mentioned here is not merely a title.

The identity that every human being has to carry throughout life lies hidden within this single line.

Thiruvalluvar says:

“Iniya ulavaga innatha kooral

Kani iruppak kaai kavarndhatru.”

When pleasant words are available, choosing words that hurt another person’s heart is like choosing an unripe fruit when a ripe fruit is already available in one’s hand.

No matter how high a position a person holds, if he speaks disrespectfully about others, he loses his dignity. He gets branded as a person of low character and is brought down from the throne of our hearts.

At the same time, even an ordinary helper can win our hearts through his words. He can sit comfortably on the throne of our hearts.

Your value does not lie in the position you hold;

it lies in the way you speak.

One word can kill.

One word can win.

Words are not merely sounds; they are seeds. We reap tomorrow what we sow today.

A wound caused by a sword may heal, but a wound caused by words can kill without killing. Especially when we hurt someone who cannot stand equal to us and throw back the same words at us, one day those very words may return to hurt us. We may not be able to bear it.

A minute of words spoken in anger can destroy a relationship that has been built over many years. Therefore, we must think a thousand times before we speak.

The words you speak are your authority.

They control you. Whether the words we speak control us or remain under our control depends on the words we choose to speak.

It takes a special skill to remain silent where there is no need to speak.

Knowing when not to speak is greater maturity than knowing when to speak.

Even on the internet, our words are our address.

In today’s world, the words we speak do not remain only with us. A comment written on social media can reach thousands of people within seconds. Therefore, we alone are fully responsible for every word we write.

We must never forget that the letters typed by our fingers are also a signature of our character.

Insulting a person whose face we cannot see is not bravery. Let our way of communicating—with people we know as well as those we do not know—be filled with humanity. Let that be our address.

Words — The Bridge Between Relationships

“How are you?”

“Don’t worry; I am here.”

“You can do it.”

“Please forgive me.”

“Thank you.”

These simple words have the power to open great doors.

A good word costs nothing, but its value cannot be measured.

A house address may change.

A telephone number may change.

A position may change.

A person’s economic condition may change.

But the memory of the words we leave behind in the hearts of others will live for a long time.

For the person who speaks with love,

love becomes the address.

For the person who speaks with character,

character becomes the address.

For the person who speaks the truth,

truth itself becomes the address.

Do not speak merely by looking at the words.

Speak only after thinking about the consequences that will follow your words.

Your words are not merely words.

They are your address.
